What is National Dark Sky Week?
National Dark Sky Week (NDSW) is a week during which everyone in the United States turns off all unnecessary outdoor lights to temporarily reduce light pollution so that everyone can enjoy the beauty of the night sky. NDSW starts April 1st through April 8th, from 9 to 11pm. NDSW will hopefully inspire us to use better lighting systems that emit only a small amount of light into the night sky.

What is light pollution?
Light pollution is the glow in the night sky caused by outdoor lights that do not shine directly downward. Outdoor lights that contribute to the problem are all around us. Unshielded streetlights, yard lights pointing upward and most any outdoor light that is not shielded to shine directly downward.

Safety Notice
If you would like to participate in the National Dark Sky Week at home, please do not turn off any lights needed for safety purposes.
